Important Details
- There is no upper age limit for apprenticeship training; only the minimum age of 14 years for non-hazardous trades and 18 years for hazardous trades applies, counted on the closing date for online applications.
- An upper age limit set in the employment rules for the post of Tradesman Skilled in Naval Dockyards will apply to ex-Naval Apprentices of Dockyard Apprentice School, Mumbai applying for that post after completing training.
- Naval Dockyard Mumbai is not obliged to offer employment after training and the apprentice is not obliged to accept any.
- A limited hostel facility is available for boys only, allotted on merit with first preference to outstation candidates; there is no hostel or lodging facility for female candidates.
- Candidates already undergoing apprenticeship in any government, public sector or private organisation must terminate that contract through the MSDE portal before applying and must have fulfilled any cooling down criterion.
- Apprentices get free medical treatment only from the Naval Dockyard Dispensary, limited to the facility available there.
- No application fee is charged and selection is purely on merit.
Reservation Policy
Reservation for SC and ST is as per Schedule II A of the Apprentice Rules, 1992 and for OBC (NCL) as per Maharashtra Act No. VIII of 2004. Reserved vacancies are filled separately from eligible SC, ST and OBC (NCL) candidates who are lower in merit than the last candidate on the UR merit list or who have availed age relaxation. PwBD and ESM reservations are horizontal and cut across the vertical SC/ST/OBC(NCL) reservation; candidates selected against these quotas are placed in the appropriate UR/SC/ST/OBC(NCL) category. PwBD reservation follows MSDE-4/3/2023-AP(PMU) dated 11 Apr 25 on the applicability of the RPwD Act 2016 to ATS and trade-wise suitability. Persons with SD/SI with associated limb dysfunction are covered under the respective sub-category of LD.
Suitable Groups of Benchmark Disability for PwBD
| Group | Disability Categories |
|---|---|
| Group A | LD, CP, LC, DW, AAV |
| Group B | B, LV |
| Group C | D, HH |
| Group D | ASD (M, MoD), ID, SLD, MI |
| Group E | MD |
Resolution of Ties
- Marks in the written examination are considered first to draw the merit list.
- If written exam marks are the same, the older candidate by date of birth ranks higher.
- If date of birth is also the same, alphabetical order of the first name is considered.
Scribe Facility
PwBD candidates with 40% or above disability in the categories of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected) and cerebral palsy are given a scribe if desired. For other benchmark disabilities, a certificate of physical limitation to write and need of a scribe is required from the Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon or Medical Superintendent of a Government health care institution. PwD candidates with less than 40% disability get a scribe or compensatory time only on a certificate from the competent medical authority of a Government health care institution. A candidate bringing their own scribe must ensure the scribe's qualification is one step below their own and submit the scribe's details in the prescribed proforma.
