Age Limit
Candidates should not have completed more than 60 years as on 01/10/2026. For Retired Railway Doctors as CMPs, the number of terms of engagement is seven terms subject to the age limit of 67 years.

Retired Railway Doctors engaged as CMPs may serve up to 67 years, subject to a maximum of seven terms of engagement.

Important Details
- The engagement is a stop-gap arrangement and does not confer any right to regularization or absorption, and the service rendered will not count towards regular selection through UPSC.
- Two years of experience is desirable, not mandatory.
- No private practice is allowed and contract doctors are not entitled to Railway Quarters.
- No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
Contract Terms
- Engagement is on a full time contract basis for one year or less, or till a regular IRHS Anaesthetist is available, or till the scheme is available, whichever is earlier.
- The contract is not extendable on any grounds; the Railway administration may enter into a fresh contract for another term.
- Either side may terminate the contract by giving 15 days notice without assigning any reason.
- The selected doctor must undergo a medical examination before the contract is entered into.
- Character and antecedents certificates from two gazetted officers of the Central or State Government are required at the time of entering into contract.
- A brief orientation of two weeks must be completed.
Facilities and Leave
- One set of First Class complimentary pass for self and family during each contract, issued after three months of regular contracted service.
- Free medical treatment for self only, except operations categorised as 'Special' in para 622 (8) of the Indian Railway Medical Manual 2000.
- Sundays and National Holidays are off, plus authorized absence at the rate of two days per month.
Duties and Restrictions
- Attend all normal medical tasks, emergencies and accidents.
- Issue sick or fitness certificates for up to 7 days; longer certificates need countersignature by a regular Railway Medical Officer.
- No administrative work such as pre-employment or periodical medical examinations, sanction of leave to Group C and D staff, or food certification; may grant casual leave of 3 days or less at a stretch to Group C and D staff.
- No financial powers; may operate the imprest account as per IRMM guidelines with countersignature by an authorized Railway Medical Officer.
- Cannot initiate, review or accept the annual confidential reports of Group C railway employees.
