Research Associate (Data Science) - Qualification and Experience
Essential qualification: BE / B.Tech or M.Sc. in Mathematics or Computer Science, from a recognised university/institution. Desirable qualification: M.Tech / MS / MCA or higher qualification in Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Data Science or a closely related discipline. Essential experience: minimum one year of experience in applied or quantitative research, analytics, mathematical modelling or software development; fresh candidates may be considered if they have done good projects during their bachelors. Desirable experience: experience in a research laboratory, Centre of Excellence, or a sponsored research / consultancy project in an academic or research institution.

Important Details
- The post is a fixed-term contract for one year on consolidated pay, extendable based on performance and Institute requirements.
- Candidates in Government, Public Sector or Private Sector employment must produce a proper relieving order or letter from their current employer at the time of joining, failing which they will not be permitted to join.
- Selected candidates must join within thirty days of receipt of the offer.
- Age and experience are reckoned as on the closing date of applications.
- Working hours are 09:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday, and the selected candidate may be required to work on holidays or extra hours when work demands.

Skills Required
- Strong mathematical and statistical modelling skills, including mathematical optimization
- Demonstrated programming ability in C++ and Python, with familiarity with relevant scientific and analytical libraries and with version control
- Working knowledge of machine learning and deep learning methods; exposure to cloud computing and graph analytics is preferred
- Ability to work in inter-disciplinary areas of applied research such as healthcare, natural resources and cyber-physical systems
- Ability to prepare technical documentation, project reports and presentations of publishable quality
- Strong problem-solving orientation, able to work independently and as part of a project team
- Good communication skills in English; knowledge of Telugu and Hindi is an added advantage
Job Description
- Support the ongoing academic research, consultancy, product development and training assignments of the Lab
- Collect, curate and prepare datasets; develop, test and validate mathematical, statistical and analytical models
- Assist in preparation of research proposals, project reports, deliverables and technical documentation for sponsoring agencies
- Maintain the IDeAL website, code repositories, project records and documentation, and hand over all project material at the end of the engagement
- Coordinate with Head-IDeAL, project teams, sponsoring agencies, industry partners and student assistants
- Contribute to the training programmes, workshops and outreach activities of the Lab
- Report to the Head, IDeAL, IIM Visakhapatnam
